These plant-based brownies are so easy to make, along with being super-moist, gooey and fudgy and they have just right right balance of chocolate throughout.

To make them extra healthy, we used unsweetened applesauce for the egg replacement and 100% unsweetened cocoa for richness to give it that intense chocolate flavor you’re looking for in brownies.

About The Chocolate To Use

Ghirardelli’s Unsweetened Cocoa is awesome and recommended, but Hershey’s Special Dark Baking Cocoa would also be good or any good quality unsweetened cocoa you may have on hand.

You don’t even need chocolate chips for extra chocolate flavor, unless you want to add them, but seriously, you don’t need them.  These are just good ole’ brownies without all the frills! However, walnuts would be an exception, because they always pair well with brownies!

How to Make Super Easy Fudgy Vegan Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8×8 square baking pan, or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Combine flour, cocoa and salt and mix, set aside.
  3. Melt butter in microwave until melted in a large microwavable bowl or after melted, transfer to a large bowl.
  4. While the butter is still hot, mix in the oil and sugar and and whisk together until mixed well.
  5. Add applesauce and vanilla and mix until well combined.
  6. Add flour to buttery mixture and whisk together until well combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 28-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few crumbs.  Enjoy!

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder I prefer and use Ghiradelli 100% Unsweetened Cocoa Powder or Hershey’s Dark
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup non-dairy butter 1 stick
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil or oil of choice if using coconut oil melt it with butter
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • ½ cup applesauce for vegan version
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
